Our dancers perform the traditional Bavarian Schuhplattler and folk dances created in the mountain regions of Bavaria hundreds of years ago.
We want to get more people dancing and actively celebrate and encourage people’s enthusiasm and potential to dance regardless of their age, background or ability. Our group has always maintained its family focus by including children and even grandchildren in our performances. We especially enjoy involving our audiences -- young and old alike -- in our audience-participation dances!
These groups all practice together and often are seen performing at various events around town and within the NJ, NY and PA area. Some of us have even travelled and performed in Europe as well all across the US.
In addition to supporting other German-American Clubs, we have been invited to perform at various civic and cultural arts events, sporting events, as well as private parties and celebrations.
Our rehearsals are social, relaxed and fun with all the health benefits that dancing can bring!
We encourage our members to participate in a variety of events and outings that foster the spirit of Gemütlichkeit the German culture is so well known for.
Some of our adventures have included:
Bayern Verein Newark, or BVN as we’re sometimes affectionately known, is a non-profit cultural and social dance organization that was formed to foster the customs and traditions of our parents and ancestors.
We have both an adult group and a children’s/ youth group with participants ranging in age from 5 and up through and including well-seasoned dancers who are still young at heart.
Although our main focus is on dancing, we also know our way around a good time off the dance floor as well.
